Capturing Confidence: Empowering Women Through Boudoir Photography in Calgary

Boudoir sessions can be intimidating. You are photographed nude and is not a usual posing. It is all mental obstacles that we have placed on ourselves from unrealistic societal expectations. You and I know we won’t be a Kardashian goddess with perfectly smooth-glass-like skin and even proportions in reality. What we are is women, real women with curves, skin texture and tones. In truth, I am also on the journey of self-love and appreciation of my body. It has been through a lot for the past five years and now I am starting with honouring it and truly thanking it. Multiple pregnancies, two births, massive weight gain and huge weight loss. I’ve been through it, and I also have stretch marks, uneven skin tones, blemishes, and scars. These exact qualities are what make us unique, not what make us unattractive. But guess what?! Taking photos it’s an art in itself and so is post-processing. If you want to have that even skin tone or blemishes removed, that can be always done. If you want to leave everything natural, that is also 100% welcome! The beauty of it is that you are the artist of your image, and it is all in your hands how you want the outcome to be. I am merely the shooter and the magician to make it all come to life.

Choosing a photographer you are most comfortable with is your key to successful session. Choose someone who can show you or guide you for poses, have a Pinterest board of what poses you want to try and see if will show you off in the best way, and get artsy and creative with what kind of spicy photos you want. Here is the other component of having a boudoir session: is this session for your empowerment or is it also for a special someone? They are both valid answers and perfect reasons for a sexy shoot! There is no wrong answer or expectations either. I am here to tell you how gorgeous you are, that you are a badass, and that you are worthy of feeling sexy no matter the age, size, tone or orientation you may be. My goal is to restore that self-love with the power of photography and to show you are already perfect!

Some tips on preparation for your boudoir session :

  • Drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated

  • Prioritize on eating healthy and nourishing your body with lots of variety in nutriets if possible

  • Exfoliation is your friend, try to exfoliate your body skin for 3-4 weeks prior to your session if you can

  • If you are planning on self/fake tanning/waxing or fake eyelash extensions, plan to do it 2-3 days before your session to avoid irritation on the day of your session

  • Apply lots of hydrating lotions to help your skin be glowing and appear even more healthy in the photos

  • Prepare several outfits (less is more ;) ) or several photo ideas you were wanting to recreate

  • Style your hair to your comfort, messy bed-hair makes for some sexy looks

  • Have fun, there will be music and jokes ready to go to make you feel at ease!
