Photographing a Wedding at Azuridge Estates Hotel

The sun beamed down on us, bathing the stunning Azuridge Estates Hotel in gorgeous light. Nestled in the serene outskirts of Calgary in Priddis, Alberta, this venue is a hidden gem. The scenic drive to Azuridge offers breathtaking views of rolling prairies, lush golf courses, and an immersive escape into nature-making it the perfect setting for a wedding.
This venue is one of my absolute favourites to photograph. It offers a secluded and intimate atmosphere, perfect for couples seeking both privacy and grandeur. With expansive grounds that can host weddings of 100+ guests, Azuridge also provides elopement packages for those desiring a more intimate celebration. Whether big or small, weddings here are effortlessly magical.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the radiant bride, surrounded by her closest friends, infectious laughter, and an amazing playlist setting the tone for the day. I always encourage my couples to enjoy the getting-ready process, and music is a fantastic way to bring in that joy!
During their wedding questionnaire, the couple described themselves as playful and big-hearted, qualities that shone through in every moment. One particularly touching highlight was Angela’s heartfelt tribute to a lost loved one. She shared, "My something blue is a charm for my bouquet—a picture of Chelsea, who we lost to breast cancer. I stood in her wedding, and I wanted a part of her with me. My mom’s best friend, Shelly, who’s like my second mom, lost her daughter Chelsea, so I want to get a photo of Auntie Shelly putting the charm on my bouquet."
It was a deeply emotional moment, and I’ll admit, it’s tough to photograph through teary eyes, but moments like these are what make wedding photography so powerful.
Moving to the ceremony, I had the pleasure of meeting Calgary’s own Vince from Hitched by Fuzz, who also happens to be a morning radio host on 98.5. His signature voice filled the ceremony with warmth, humour, and heartfelt moments.
However, one unexpected guest stole the show-a crow that decided to screech through the vows. Let’s just say he was the couple’s biggest (and loudest) cheerleader! Despite his interruptions, the ceremony was breathtaking, especially framed by the stunning floral arch that served as the perfect backdrop.
One thing that stood out at Azuridge was the incredible service. An attendant was on hand to assist with anything we needed, whether providing water for the couple, holding personal items, or simply ensuring doors were opened for us. This level of care is rare at venues, and it made a noticeable difference in the couple’s experience. As a photographer, I usually step in to assist, so having that extra support allowed me to focus purely on capturing stunning images.
As the evening unfolded, I had the opportunity to capture the beautifully designed reception setup. From elegantly arranged tablescapes to personalized decor, every detail reflected the couple’s vision for their guests.
The speeches were a highlight. Filled with heartfelt tributes and wildly entertaining stories about the groom. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much during wedding speeches before! The love and joy in the room were undeniable, and the photos truly speak for themselves.
